What is the AICE Program?

AICE is a rigorous, pre-university program of study for academically talented and motivated students who wish to qualify for admission to the best colleges and universities. AICE students will sit for the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Successful performance on these examinations leads to advance standing at the colleges and universities to which the student is admitted, college credits, as well as qualifying the students for the University of Cambridge AICE Diploma.

The Cambridge AICE program is recognized at over 500 universities within the United States, including every IVY league school in the country, and has gained worldwide recognition. One of the benefits a student receives from being successful in the AICE program is the ability to earn college credit after demonstrating mastery in core curricula. Another benefit is that students who graduate with an AICE diploma qualify for the top level of the Bright Future Scholarship. Last year, our AICE students had a 91% pass rate on their college-level examinations and earned more than 4,100 college credits.

AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) courses and examinations are equivalent to first-year college and university courses (See Course Equivalents for more detail).

Students who pass the battery of seven examinations are awarded the AICE Diploma directly by the University of Cambridge. Students who do not earn the AICE Diploma are given credit for those examinations they do pass and are awarded individual General Certificates of Education by Cambridge.

AICE teachers at Oakleaf High School are trained and certified directly by Cambridge. Each of the courses strictly follows a course syllabus that is designed by Cambridge professors.

The AICE program of study offers students one of the most demanding and rigorous college preparatory programs in the world. The State of Florida Universities and the Bright Futures Scholarship Program each award one extra quality point for students who successfully complete an AICE course with a "E" or better.

AICE students are better prepared to be successful at the university level upon graduation from high school. A study recently done by Bill Kolb, director of admissions at the University of Florida, showed that AICE students performed better during their freshman year at UF, than students who took IB, AP and Dual Enrollment courses. Acceleration Mechanism Average GPA During Freshman Year (honors or regular classes) 2.60 Dual Enrollment 2.65 Advanced Placement (AP) 3.02 International Baccalaureate (IB) 3.08 Advanced International Certificate in Education (AICE) 3.46.
